Through our Military Pillar, PGA REACH COLORADO seeks to improve the physical, mental, and social rehabilitation of our military heroes and their families through the sport of golf.
PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America. PGA HOPE introduces golf to Veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being.
The program introduces the game of golf through a developmental 6-8 week curriculum, taught by PGA Professionals trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency. PGA HOPE includes an introduction to the sport of golf, golf instruction, playing opportunities and social events. All programs are funded by PGA REACH and supplemented by PGA Section Foundations, so the cost of programming is free to all Veterans.
PGA HOPE has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which enables Recreational Therapists to refer Veterans to the PGA HOPE program as a form of therapy. Through a robust program strategy, PGA HOPE aspires to create a physically and emotionally healthier Veteran community by shaping lives, changing lives, and possibly saving lives through the game of golf.
The founding chapter of PGA HOPE within the Colorado Section is located at Cheyenne Shadows Golf Course at Fort Carson and was launched in 2014. The Warrior Transition Battalion (WTB) at Ft. Carson serves as a temporary assignment for soldiers who are recovering from major service-induced injuries. Through a partnership with the WTB at Ft. Carson, and with the support of the PGA Professionals at Cheyenne Shadows, the PGA HOPE program was able to provide an introductory golf experience, playing and social events for more than 100 wounded warriors and their families all at no cost to the soldier or their support system.
